Philippines – HFMD Cases Triple in 2015

HFMD cases in 2015 are triple the number from the first 8 months of 2014. There have been 563 cases of HFMD in the Philippines in 2015 versus 180 during the same period in 2014. The disease is spreading in Baguio, Calamba, and Mindanao, though cases are rarely fatal. Two outbreaks of Chikungunya were recently reported – one in the northeastern part of Luzon Island with 50 suspected cases, and a second on the island of Mindanao with 78 suspected cases, both heavily associated with poor sanitation practices.
